Maria is not only talented at her craft, she is also an excellent teacher. I learned so much from just this beginners course, and she shared a great deal of wisdom to overcome 'beginners errors'. It was also a class that felt very safe to ask questions in. For anyone who thinks doing an online version of the course might be odd, I think it is probably a better learning experience as the camera shows Maria's hand/nib at work to really understand the foundations of calligraphy.

Maria Montes
I have been teaching calligraphy independently since 2014. I offer in-person and online calligraphy and lettering courses, corporate in-house workshops, as well as private one-to-one tuitions.
I educate students worldwide on broad-edge pen Roman Capitals, Modern Carolingian, Italic, Neuland, Blackletter, Copperplate and Script Brush calligraphy for beginner and intermediate students. I specialise in Script lettering and connected alphabets.
I studied a Postgraduate Course in Advanced Typography and a Condensed Program in Typeface Design at Type@Cooper in NYC. In 2018 I released my first independent display chromatic font family called Green Fairy.

Do I need previous experience in calligraphy?
My Level 1 courses are designed for total beginner and intermediate students, so you don’t need any experience at all!
My Level 2 courses are designed to support students who have already learnt the foundations of each particular calligraphy style, and are looking to refine and elevate their skills, as well as consolidating their existing knowledge.
I you have never been introduced to the particular calligraphy style, I strongly encourage you to join my Level 1 Courses for setting up a solid foundations of this style.

Yes, if you send me your homework by email, I’ll review it and give you feedback.
Can I still do the courses being a left hander?
Absolutely yes! In fact, left handers are great calligraphers and you may find easier to follow the angle of the writing in comparison to right handers. Check this video about left hander positioning.
Which materials do I need for the courses?
Once you sign up for one of my courses, you'll have access to a PDF file with a visual list of materials plus a video of me going thorugh the materials and sharing my thoughts with you.
