Description

This Course In A Nutshell

This course is for intermediate students with existing knowledge of the Copperplate foundational lowercase (minuscules) and simpler capital letters.


Course Overview

On classes 1 & 2 we’ll focus on variations applied to the lowercase alphabet by adding swashes in the ascenders, descenders, entry and exit strokes. We'll also change the angle of our writing and the pressure on our downstrokes.


On class 3 we’ll focus on numbers and address an envelope combining lowercase, capitals, numbers and abbreviations.


The next module is about writing longer quotes with a ratio of 2:2:2


And on classes 4 & 5 we'll learn a new set of capitals adding longer movements and a new set of swashes. Overall, we'll increase pen driving hours gaining confidence and precision with our strokes, taking our skills to the next level!

About Your Instructor

Maria Montes | Calligrapher, Brand & Lettering Designer

Maria Montes is an independent lettering designer and illustrator specialised in branding assets and calligraphy education.


Her multidisciplinary practice expands across brand identity, packaging illustration, custom lettering, calligraphy, fashion, art and culture. She has been teaching calligraphy independently since 2014 including: Copperplate, Italic, Blackletter, Carolingian, Neuland, Roman Capitals and Brush lettering.


Maria studied a Postgraduate Course in Advanced Typography in Barcelona and a Condensed Program in Typeface Design at Type@Cooper in NYC. In 2018 she released her first independent display chromatic font family called Green Fairy.
